“What is Torflex”

The Torflex suspension system is a torsion arm type suspension which is completely self contained within the axle tube. It attaches directly to the trailer chassis using brackets which are an integral part of the axle assembly. The Torflex axle provides improved suspension characteristics relative to leaf spring axles through the unique arrangement of a steel bar surrounded by four rubber cords encased in the main structural member of the axle beam.

How does Torflex work?

The wheel/hub spindle is attached to a lever, called the torsion arm, which is fastened to the rubber encased bar. As load is applied, the bar rotates causing a rolling/compressive resistance in the rubber cords. This system provides true independent suspension, with far fewer components than conventional systems.

LOWER MAINTENANCE.
Except for periodic inspection of the fasteners used to attach the Torflex axle to the vehicle frame, no other suspension maintenance is required on Torflex axles. They are, of course, subject to normal maintenance and inspection procedures regarding brakes, hubs, bearings, seals, wheels and tyres. Additionally, Torflex comes with E-Z lube as standard to minimise time spent maintaining hub grease (see below – What is E-Z lube).

WEIGHT SAVING.
The inbuilt strength of Torflex means that it can be used as a structural cross member, thus reducing chassis weight. Further, depending on the configuration, Torflex can save weight when compared to the total weight of a traditional system. This largely due to the fact that Torflex is an axle and suspension in one unit rather than a combination of axle and suspension.

WHAT IS E-Z LUBE?
The E-Z Lube system consists of axle spindles that have been specially drilled and assembled with grease fittings. With grease pumped into the fitting, it is channelled to the inner bearing, then to the outer bearing, and eventually back out the grease cap hole for a complete bearing repack. The protection and maintenance features of the E-Z Lube system make it ideal for most towable axles. E-Z Lube is designed to allow for immersion in water.
